CALLERS IN CRISIS: SUICIDAL CALLERS (WEB)
In times like these, when the suicide rate is increasing, you may be wondering how best to help those who call 911. What do you say? What do you not say? How do you keep them on the line? Usually, getting information from callers is a straightforward process: you ask a direct, specific question, and hopefully, they give you a short, specific answer. But most often, suicidal callers need a different approach from you, one which requires that you slow down and take time to establish trust. In this course, using actual 911 call scenarios, you will learn techniques to build rapport with a suicidal caller in a way that will both help them and help you get the information you need. There will also be reminders about taking care of yourself during and after these calls. ONLY AVAILABLE TO POST PARTICIPATING AGENCIES VIA THE LEARNING PORTAL.

COMMUNITY POLICING
Today’s police officer must be more complete in their capabilities, more community focused and aware how global events can affect neighborhood concerns. To accomplish this public safety must be a shared responsibility. At the heart of this shared responsibility is what is called community policing. This program will provide law enforcement professionals with knowledge, skills, and best practices to work collaboratively with the community. Learn to develop effective partnership, apply effective outreach strategies, communicate intentions when building relationships, identify resources to improve community/police relations, and describe the specific needs and priorities of the community.

DUTY TO INTERCEDE
ONLINE/SELF-PACED COURSE - (PAID SUBSCRIPTION. Please click the registration link below.)
This comprehensive course will provide you with guidance to help with the legal and ethical decisions associated with your duty to intercede as an officer. Even though it can be challenging, if interceding is the moral, legal, and ethical thing to do, then you, as an officer, must do so. At the end of the day, it all comes down to doing the right thing. If you do not do the right thing, how can you expect to be worthy of the public’s trust? And that lack of trust can often lead to a lack of legitimacy for an agency and its officers. With this in mind, we are going to look at different situations where officers must decide whether to intercede in or report another officer's conduct. As we go through each example, think about what the right response to the situation would be and why you would respond that way. This course provides updated legislative content of Penal Code Section 835a.

This course will examine what resolute belief in the mission truly looks like and why it is critical for any team or organization to succeed. When inevitable challenges arise, the understanding of why you are doing what you are doing is necessary to inspire others to follow and accomplish the mission. To do this effectively, the leader must be a true believer in that mission. First responders must detach from the immediate tactical mission and understand how it supports strategic goals or ask questions for clarification when they cannot understand. They must ensure they explain the why behind the mission so that their teams can believe and successfully execute. First responders will apply these concepts to specific scenarios for analysis and learning purposes.

This course will focus on instilling the concept of Extreme Ownership within each learner. People often understand what ownership means, but the idea of Extreme Ownership is typically a new concept. It is important for leaders to fully understand that Extreme Ownership means they will take full responsibility for all things–excuses & blaming anything other than yourself is not an option. Leaders who fail to take ownership of problems allow those problems to go unsolved. To fully understand the need to take Extreme Ownership, leaders must recognize how detrimental a lack of ownership can be to the team and the mission. There are many barriers leaders may feel exist when first attempting to adopt this concept, but there is one that most often gets in the way–ego. If leaders can recognize that their hesitance to take ownership is mostly driven by their ego, they start to move past this barrier.

(1)Cover & Move is about teamwork, but we know that in order to work together effectively, leaders must have good relationships. (2)Simple communication is one of the most challenging aspects of leadership. (3)Priorities are constantly shifting, & the list of priorities is constantly growing. (4)Being decentralized is crucial for teams to work efficiently, but leaders often don’t provide the most critical piece of information their people need to lead on their own – the WHY. We want leaders to recognize the importance of explaining the WHY in a way that allows their people to make decisions on their own.

(1)We want leaders to recognize that in order to truly gain the freedoms they desire, they must be disciplined in the way they use their time, money, resources, etc.(2)Leaders tend to freeze up when faced with a difficult problem. Leaders must recognize that the best way to tackle a problem is to be decisive even when you are uncertain through iterative decision making.(3)Everyone tends to do things “the way we’ve always done it.” Staying in your comfort zone and avoiding change is a natural tendency leaders must fight against.(4)No matter how humble we think we are, we all deal with our ego clouding our ability to see things clearly. Leaders must recognize that the most important quality they can possess is the ability to check their ego.

This course will examine many of the different dichotomies leaders will face to help leaders recognize the need for balance and improve their ability to identify these dichotomies when they manifest. Dichotomy is not a common term, so we want leaders to understand what the word dichotomy means. It refers to a division or contrast between two things that are or are represented as being opposed. In other words, two opposing forces that pull against each other. Good leadership requires balance, but we are often pulled in opposite directions as a leader. And, both directions can be right. So, we want leaders to avoid operating in extremes and instead, recognize that in order to be an effective leader you must constantly balance different dichotomies of leadership.

EXTREME OWNERSHIP LEADERSHIP TRAINING 106
ONLINE/SELF-PACED COURSE - (PAID SUBSCRIPTION. Please click the registration link below.)
This course will examine the differences in approaching each level of the chain of command. Leading down the chain of command is extremely difficult if you don’t know your people. We want leaders to identify the importance of building relationships with their subordinates and take the necessary steps to make that happen. We want to ensure that leaders understand how to build relationships up the chain which will allow them to influence up the chain when needed. Finally, creating alignment up, down, and across the chain of command requires building relationships. Part of maintaining and building those relationships is to ensure that you are communicating throughout the entire chain of command. We want leaders to focus on making that communication as clear and concise as possible to ensure that everyone understands and stays aligned.
