CRISIS INTERVENTION-INTERMEDIATE 
This 24 hour course will provide Peace Officers and Dispatchers with the skills and knowledge to identify and recognize individuals with mental illness, mental disorders, and minimize escalations in contacts with mentally ill individuals. Training focuses on developing safe techniques for approaching the mentally ill, communication skills, de-escalation techniques, suicide risk factors, and cultural issues. Students will hear from industry professionals, individuals with mental health issues, and will participate in discussions with mental health service providers, and family members. Meets PC 13515 requirements.

The purpose of this course is to provide the new officer recently graduated from the police academy, with a base of knowledge and suggestions for responding effectively and safely to persons in mental health crisis or those with intellectual disabilities. Participants are encouraged to incorporate the presented suggestions to complement their department’s policies and procedures. Meets PC 13515.25 and the Perishable Skills Program for tactical Communications.

The purpose of this course is to provide the student with a base of knowledge for responding to individuals in mental health crisis or those with intellectual disabilities. The training exercises and discussions will focus on how Field Training Officers can best mentor and assist officers in training. This course provides updated legislative content of Penal Code Section 835a.
