This course will develop officers as primary instructors for their agencies' active shooter response programs. Through classroom instruction, student teach backs and dry fire and live fire weapons & tactics drills, students will be exposed to various aspects of building and/or maintaining the ability of law enforcement personnel to respond to such critical incidents. Course of instruction will focus not only on the line level response but also on supervisory and management responsibilities as well as SWAT and mutual aid issues. This provides students with basics of using specific firearms in a tactical setting. Instruction will include Use of Force and liability issues, nomenclature, assembly/disassembly, maintenance and functioning. Range drills will involve not just the developing the students' skills in using their assigned weapons but also knowing when to do so. This will be accomplished through various dry fire and live fire drills including sighting in, stance, trigger control, reloading and malfunction clearing techniques, firing on the move, firing at moving targets, "shoot/don't shoot" scenarios, and other drills. Each student must pass a qualification course and a written test. Successful completion of this course satisfies the legislative training mandate to possess short barrel rifles as specified in Penal Code section 33220(b) and Commission training requirement as specified in Commission Regulation 1081. This course provides updated legislative content of Penal Code Section 835a.

Designed to develop students as instructors in the use of the patrol rifle. Course will provide instructor training in methods of providing training to officers assigned patrol rifles In addition to basic teaching techniques, students will learn about the patrol rifle history, nomenclature, fundamentals of marksmanship, ballistics, use of force issues, loading and reloading, operation, malfunctions and applicable live fire line drills, a qualification course of fire and written test. Successful completion of this course satisfies the legislative training mandate to possess short barrel rifles as specified in Penal Code section 33220(b) and the Commission training requirement to possess long barrel rifles as specified in Commission Regulation 1081. This course provides an update to Penal Code Section 835(a)
