This course will provide the student with the knowledge and skills to: identify signs and symptoms of mental illness, assess and manage an individual’s risk for suicide and distinguish the fundamental difference between a suicide and “Suicide by Cop.” This training examines officer safety and tactical considerations to improve the effectiveness of field contacts with mentally ill persons and others in crisis, to understand the importance of first responder self-care and examine PTSD.
